The NIO ET7 is the brand's executive sedan, and the headline figure attached to it is a range of over 1,000 km. That claim, as carried on NIO's global product page, is tied to a specific battery: a 150 kWh ultra-long-range pack that NIO describes as embodying "globally leading battery technologies" with 176 patents. The page also states that the ET7 "is the only battery electric executive sedan that has achieved over 1,000 kilometers in a real-life range challenge," a challenge NIO itself ran — it is a vendor claim, not an independent measurement.
The test cycle behind the number matters. NIO's own footnote is explicit that the range is a simulated estimate under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) standards — not WLTP, which governs figures published for European markets, and not the EPA cycle used in the United States. No WLTP or EPA figure for the ET7 appears in the manufacturer's documentation read for this piece, so no such figure is printed here; readers comparing the ET7 with models rated in other markets are comparing numbers from different cycles.
The published numbers
The dimensions NIO publishes for the ET7 are a length of 5,101 mm, a width of 1,987 mm and a wheelbase of 3,060 mm, with the page describing a "golden wheelbase-to-length ratio of 60%". On aerodynamics, NIO cites an ultra-low drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.208 and says the "drag-reducing silhouette effectively increases range". The page also lists seven exterior colors, from Moon Silver to Sunrise Beige, and a business-class-inspired cabin with seats described as having 10 layers and up to 14-way power adjustment for the rear seats. These are all specifications as printed on the manufacturer's page; the page itself carries a disclaimer that configurations, photos and other information might differ from the final production models, "where the latter shall prevail".
Sensing and computing hardware
The ET7 page documents the Aquila super sensing system as comprising 33 sensing units, including an ultralong-range high-resolution LiDAR, seven 8 MP cameras, four 3 MP surround-view cameras, one driver-monitoring system, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, GPS, IMU and V2X. For computing, it cites the ADAM cluster with four Nvidia Orin X chips for assisted and intelligent driving plus one Qualcomm SA8295P SoC for the cockpit, at a stated 1,016 TOPS. NIO's own caveat applies: assisted and intelligent driving is "designed for driver assistance only and cannot fully replace a human driver", and some configurations are optional or absent on some versions.
Battery swap and flexible upgrade
The ET7 is documented as chargeable, swappable and upgradable. NIO states that a fully automated battery swap takes 3 minutes, with a health check conducted before each swap. Because of the vehicle-battery separation that swapping enables, NIO describes a flexible-upgrade scheme: a driver can opt for a standard-range battery for daily use and switch to a long-range pack for longer trips, returning the battery in any city across the country. The footnote adds that the 150 kWh battery pack "will be open in the form of flexible upgrade options in the future" — wording that indicates availability of that pack through upgrade, as described on the page at the time it was read, not necessarily as a purchase outright.
What the swap network promises
NIO's Power page, which the ET7 page references for recharging, carries the manufacturer's broader power claims: Power Charger 4.0 units with a maximum current of 765 A, a maximum voltage of 1,000 V and peak power of 640 kW, a 2.4 kg liquid-cooled charging cable, and the 3-minute swap described above. These are NIO's published equipment specifications, as carried on the Power page at the time it was read; terms and the network itself differ by market, and NIO's market list on the page spans regions from China and Europe to the UAE, Singapore and Uzbekistan.
Reading the 1,000 km figure correctly
For anyone comparing the ET7's headline range with other cars, three checks follow directly from what NIO itself publishes:
- The 1,000 km figure is an estimate simulated with the 150 kWh pack under CLTC standards, per NIO's own footnote, and NIO adds that it may vary with weather, road conditions, topography, driving habits, occupancy and loading.
- NIO's disclaimer says the range "filed in the official documents shall prevail" — for a given market, that market's homologation paperwork is the governing figure.
- The "real-life range challenge" is NIO's own event, so it stands as a vendor claim; the page read for this piece carries no independent test result, and no WLTP or EPA figure for the ET7 appears in the manufacturer's documentation read.
To verify any of this yourself, open NIO's global ET7 page (nio.com/et7) and read the footnote under the range section, which names the CLTC cycle and lists the factors that can vary the estimate; the Power page (nio.com/nio-power) carries the charger and swap specifications. Both pages are undated marketing material, so specifications, availability and upgrade terms should be re-checked against the current pages and, for a specific market, against the range figure in that market's official registration documents — which NIO itself says shall prevail.
