A decade in one number: SMMT's 2011 New Car CO2 Report and the UK's 144.2 g/km fleet average
On 16 March 2011 the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) published its 10th annual New Car CO2 Report. The UK-market document recorded a 2010 average of 144.2 g/km CO2 for new cars, 3.5% lower than 2009 and more than 20% below the 2000 level. It also showed how close the market already was to the Europe-wide 130 g/km fleet target set for 2015. This history item reviews what the report itself documented.
