MG S5 EV: the published figures, as MG Motor UK's model page carried them

A standing reference for the UK-market MGS5 EV, compiled from MG Motor UK's own model page as captured on 12 September 2026: three variants from £28,995, 125kW and 170kW motor options, up to 298 miles WLTP combined range, 10-80% DC charging in 28 minutes or less under standardized test conditions, and seven airbags as standard. No driving impression, measurement or reliability verdict is offered here.

The MGS5 EV is MG Motor UK's electric SUV, sold in the UK in three variants: SE, SE Long Range and Trophy Long Range. MG's model page, as captured on 12 September 2026, listed UK prices from £28,995. This entry gathers what the manufacturer itself published about the car - variants, powertrains, range, charging, equipment - and flags the conditions MG attaches to its own numbers.

MG's page is a marketing document, not an independent test. Its range figures are labelled as test-condition results for comparison, and its charging-time claim carries a footnote about the type of charger required. Where the manufacturer states a limit or a test basis, that qualification is reproduced here alongside the figure.

Variants and powertrains

The UK range, per MG's configurator listing, runs as follows:
- SE: 49kWh battery, rear-wheel drive, 125kW motor, 1-speed automatic.
- SE Long Range: 64kWh battery, rear-wheel drive, 170kW motor, 1-speed automatic.
- Trophy Long Range: 64kWh battery, rear-wheel drive, 170kW motor, 1-speed automatic.

MG offers two motor options across the range: a 125kW unit and a 170kW unit. The 170kW version drives the rear wheels, and MG states an acceleration figure of 0-62 mph in 6.3 seconds for it. That is the manufacturer's own claim, published without an independent test basis on the page.

Platform and battery

MG says the MGS5 EV is built on its Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), a dedicated pure-electric architecture that the company says it first introduced on the MG4 EV in 2022. MG describes the MSP as designed to maximize battery efficiency, reduce weight and optimize performance across vehicle types.

The battery is a third-generation, ultra-thin design on a 400V electrical system. MG states that DC charging from 10-80% takes 28 minutes or less, with charging speeds up to 139kW, and says the battery is designed for high charge retention at fast charging speeds.

Range and charging, with MG's own conditions

MG quotes a maximum range of up to 298 miles WLTP combined for the MGS5 EV. The manufacturer attaches an asterisk to that figure, stating that it is calculated under test conditions, is for comparative purposes only, and may not reflect real-life driving, with actual range varying by weather, driving style, vehicle load and accessories fitted after registration.

The 28-minute 10-80% charging claim is similarly qualified. MG's footnote states that it applies to a 150kW Ultra-Fast charger under standardized test conditions, that real-world times vary with factors including but not limited to battery age, temperature, existing charge, the charger used and the duration of charge, that lower-capacity chargers increase charging times, and that the availability of 150kW-capable chargers may be limited depending on location.

Equipment and comfort

MG's page describes a five-link rear suspension and claims a maximum boot (US: trunk) volume of 1441L of adaptable space with the adjustable boot floor. The Trophy model, per the same page, adds an electrically powered tailgate, a wireless smartphone charging tray and integrated applications such as Spotify and YouTube on the 12.8-inch HD touchscreen. All versions carry wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and a 10.25-inch driver display whose content the owner can configure.

Safety equipment as published

MG states that all models include seven airbags - front, side, curtain and a central airbag - within what it calls a reinforced steel frame chassis. The Trophy model adds a 360° HD Surround View Camera with four wide-angle cameras and ultrasonic sensors, and MG Pilot driver assistance features including Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are described on the page. MG also claims braking from 62-0 mph in 35.5 meters via a system developed with Continental and Bridgestone.

The standard Kinetic Energy Recovery System offers four energy recovery modes - Low, Medium, Strong and Adaptive - plus One Pedal Mode, according to MG's page.

How to check these figures

Every figure in this entry comes from MG Motor UK's own MGS5 EV model page as captured on 12 September 2026, and UK prices, variants and equipment change over time. To verify the current position, open the MGS5 EV page on mg.co.uk, use the configurator's model selector for per-variant pricing and powertrains, and read the footnotes attached to the range and charging claims - they define the WLTP test basis and the 150kW charger conditions. Independent range and charging results from third-party testers will differ from the manufacturer's test-condition figures; this entry holds no measurement of our own and no driving impression.
