The Toyota Group: the 17 companies, the 2024 shared vision, and how Toyota names the roster itself

A standing reference assembled from Toyota's own pages: the January 30, 2024 release in which 17 Toyota Group companies adopted the shared vision "Inventing our path forward, together" under Chairman Akio Toyoda, and the company's group roster page, which lists each group company with its establishment date and main products. We report only what Toyota published, including the roster difference between the two pages as captured, and note which dates the two lists carry.

The Toyota Group, as Toyota Motor Corporation describes it on its own global newsroom and profile pages, is a set of companies tied by shared ownership histories and, as of 2024, a written statement of common purpose. The details below come only from those primary pages: a January 30, 2024 news release on the Group vision and a company profile page titled Toyota Group Company Information, stated by the company as being as of June 2026. No independent reporting or outside ranking sits behind what follows, and the article makes no judgment about the companies' products or performance.

This piece is a files reference: a summary of what one manufacturer has published about its own group structure. Where the two pages disagree on the roster, the difference is printed plainly rather than smoothed over.

The January 30, 2024 vision announcement

On January 30, 2024, Toyota published a release stating that Chairman of the Board Akio Toyoda addressed an audience of chairmen, presidents, and frontline leaders from 17 Toyota Group companies at the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, outlining his vision for the Group's future direction, "Inventing our path forward, together." Per the release, the announcement was originally planned for February 14, the birthday of company founder Sakichi Toyoda, and was brought forward in light of recent irregularities at Group companies — the framing the release itself gives for the timing.

The release sets out five attitudes that, per the release, Toyota Group employees are to embrace. It also carries a quotation from Chairman Toyoda about setting forth a vision for the Group and creating "a place for the next generation to return to if they falter."

The 17 companies named in the 2024 release

The release footnotes the phrase "17 Toyota Group companies" with a full list. As printed in the January 30, 2024 announcement, the companies are:

  • Toyota Industries Corporation
  • Toyota Motor Corporation
  • Aichi Steel Corporation
  • JTEKT Corporation
  • Toyota Auto Body Co., Ltd.
  • Toyota Tsusho Corporation
  • AISIN Corporation
  • DENSO Corporation
  • Toyota Boshoku Corporation
  • Toyota Fudosan Co., Ltd.
  • Toyota Central R&D Labs., Inc.
  • Toyota Motor East Japan, Inc.
  • Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.
  • Hino Motors, Ltd.
  • Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.
  • Toyota Housing Corporation
  • Toyota Motor Kyushu, Inc.

What the group roster page lists

Toyota's separate profile page, Toyota Group Company Information, stated as of June 2026, lists group companies each with an establishment date and main products or activities. Toyota Industries Corporation is entered with an establishment date of Nov. 1926 and the manufacture and sales of textile machinery, materials handling equipment, automobiles and automobile parts; Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. is entered as March 1907; and Woven by Toyota, Inc. is entered as April 2023, in new technology and business development of mobility, driven by software. The page notes that Woven by Toyota's preceding company, Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development, Inc., was established in March 2018. It also lists Toyota Auto Body, Toyota Motor East Japan and Toyota Motor Kyushu among the vehicle manufacturers, Toyota Fudosan in real estate, Toyota Housing in housing, and Toyota Central R&D Labs in fundamental research and testing for the Toyota Group.

Where the two lists differ

The roster gap between the two pages, as captured, is this: Hino Motors, Ltd. appears in the 17-company list footnoted in the January 30, 2024 release, while the roster-page text as of June 2026 does not include a Hino entry; the same roster text does list Woven by Toyota, Inc., which does not appear in the 2024 list of 17. Neither passage carries a note explaining either entry's presence or absence, so the difference stands as published, without interpretation. Readers comparing the two sources going forward should expect the roster can change, and that any list is accurate only for the date the page itself states.

The founding story the release tells

The 2024 release frames the Group's history as beginning with Sakichi Toyoda's invention of the Toyoda wooden hand loom in 1890 and his subsequent founding of Toyoda Shoten, which the release attributes to his desire to make life easier for his mother. In the 1930s, per the release, Kiichiro Toyoda established Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., setting out to shift the Group's focus from textiles to the automobile industry; as the release quotes him, "we must create an automobile industry for Japan." Toyota presents this passion for invention as the true starting point of the Group, and the Group as grown around the core mission of making people smile and contributing to society through monozukuri — making things — and invention.

Two primary documents stand behind every fact above: the January 30, 2024 release on Toyota's global newsroom site, which carries the vision wording and the 17-company footnote list, and the Toyota Group Company Information page under Profile, dated by the company itself as of June 2026. Because each page carries its own stated date and rosters can be reissued, check the date a page states before comparing versions; changes since those dates lie outside what was published here.
